Servicing your air conditioner to save energy

Nowadays with the modern innovations that have occurred with air conditioners the required time for servicing gets longer and longer. Central air conditioning units now require yearly service. The older models should be serviced three times for the year.

It is recommended that persons who use an air conditioner in tropical and sub tropical temperatures get their units serviced more often then those who use an air conditioner in New York. Apart from humid temperatures airborne salt & dirt can also cause problems especially for the older models. A great thing to do would be to get an upgrade to your current model but if that is not possible then the only choice is to service the system especially if you have central air conditioning. That is the only way to keep the air quality as pure as possible. It will prevent the occurrence or worsening of any health conditions like asthma.
Proper maintenance also cuts down on the electricity usage. A faulty unit will work harder to compensate for the problems and thus use more energy. Maintenance of your unit will cut down on your carbon footprint as the environmentalists love to say.
If you have an air conditioner especially in New York where the summers can be horrible and the winters worse you have to have an efficient unit. If your house or apartment is not as cool as it was when you originally bought the unit or if the air is stale then that is your queue to get a technician to check it. In the long run however, preventative measures are always best. You can always get it checked before the time period when you will use it most (like the summer and winter months).
It cannot be reiterated enough that a schedule cannot be set for serving your air conditioning unit. It is dependent on the age of the unit and how heavily it is used. The best thing that you can do is to get it thoroughly checked out by a professional (if you can ensure that you purchase your unit from a company that does servicing as well). The same goes for central air conditioning which is used in most offices.
